Umbagong District Park Pedestrian Bridges
The Umbagong Bridges Project was commissioned by Complex Co to replace a series of three damaged timber bridges in the Umbagong District Park.
BRIEF
The original bridges had been closed to the public in April 2021 following a safety audit, leaving the community without safe access.
We were engaged to fabricate and install a durable steel solution that prioritised safety, structural precision, and timely completion. The project required the tight coordination with multiple stakeholders and trades. Advanced 3D modelling and digital workflows were used for clash detection and fabrication accuracy, ensuring all components were precise and fit-for-purpose.
One of the key structures presented a constrained site environment with limited ground access. Traditional installation methods were not feasible due to surrounding site works and safety risks. To overcome this, the team designed and deployed a cantilevered work platform, allowing safe handling, precise alignment, and welding of the bridge without the need for extensive ground-based scaffolding or disruption to other site activities.
The project was delivered safely, on time, and within specification, the project restored public access to the park and contributed to the success of a broader infrastructure package.
The project was awarded the ASI Steel sustainability award and the Civil Bridgeworks at the 2024 Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards.
