Completion date September 2024
Contract value $235k

BRIEF

We were engaged by Joss Construction to fabricate and install a structural steel mezzanine to support a new concrete slab topping.

As a variation to the initial contract, a custom glass balustrade was also required to fit the existing live edge and stair, providing both architectural appeal and compliance with AS1170 balustrading standards.

Site measurements were taken using a Leica Total Station, enabling precise 3D modelling of the mezzanine and existing structures. The model was reviewed and converted into shop drawings for fabrication and installation.

Challenges included retrofitting to a curved steel structure and integrating new glass elements with existing structures. These were overcome through precise measurement and a strict adherence to design tolerances.

The completed project was delivered on time and within budget. This was a legacy project in a national cultural institution.

Projects in the National Museum of Australia require a high-level of coordination, precision, and timely delivery to maintain operational timelines and visitor access.
